About Brian Osende Mw'Afrika
Founder & Lead Engineer, Tafari Engineering
Brian Osende Mw’Afrika is the lead engineer, director, and visionary founder of Tafari Engineering. With a profound mission to tackle Uganda’s affordable housing crisis, Brian has dedicated his expertise to creating innovative solutions that make homeownership an attainable reality for the lower-middle-class Ugandan. He was inspired to start the company after recognizing that Uganda’s rapidly growing population, set to double in 20 years, would place immense pressure on an already strained housing market. Holding both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, USA, Brian approaches building design from a unique perspective. He applies the core principles of mechanical engineering—the balance of energy and forces—to create structures that are not only stable and durable but also incredibly efficient, much like how a vehicle is designed. This distinct philosophy is the foundation of Tafari Engineering’s innovative products. Brian’s academic knowledge is complemented by extensive hands-on experience. He has over 10 years of experience in residential construction and has personally supervised the construction of various residential properties, including his own. This practical involvement allowed him to identify key areas for improvement in the traditional construction process, leading directly to the design and testing of the Tafari Interlocking Block (TIB) and the Tafari Modular Construction system. Through this work, he has cultivated a highly skilled team with expertise in masonry, roofing, plumbing, and electrical systems, ensuring every project is executed efficiently and to the highest standard. Driven by a culture of teamwork and continuous learning, Brian is leading Tafari Engineering to become a premier residential contractor in Uganda, committed to making affordable, sustainable, and high-quality housing available to all.
